Lighting requirements


94 Front fog lights may be used
to demonstrate to other drivers that you are not driving the poverty spec version of your car
if you think they look cool
if you find using the fog light switch exciting
if you can't be bothered to replace that dead headlight bulb
if you've fitted green sidelight bulbs which other road users would not be able to see if you used your headlights.

what the hell is a double mini roundabout? (hides in fear) ... is it... from milton keynes?

the DOT's stats on average vehicle speeds in 2003

following the "85th percent" guidelines once used for setting speed limits in america (with no limits, what speed would be driven at or below by 85% of drivers - a good choice for encouraging the other 15% to tow the line), the 15% of drivers exceeding 80mph on dual carriageways suggests that might be a suitable rise (even considering that figure wouldnt take into account traffic, existing dual carriageway limits under 70, and even the "big brother" limiting effect of the 70 itself).

applying that to the motorways (20% over 80) and adding a slight fudge factor for people going a little quicker with no limit / clear road, 90 looks suitable.

apparently hardly anyone exceeds the 60mph limit. possibly because it is becoming an endangered species: possibly because if you probe further down, you find that cars are doing about the same speed as trucks - because they are stuck behind them. Stuck behind a truck, or someone like my mother who clearly has no f***ing clue what the speed limit actually is from one moment to the next (and is only half awake, oblivious to a lot of what's happening), just dawdling along at 45 regardless of open countriside or hazard-strewn village.
also theres nothing to say the sites chosen werent in natually slow locations

but after all that is said and done
who were the 2% of motorcyclists doing "20mph or less" down a perfectly good NSL A-road??????????????

Milton Keynes, Swindon (I had the misfortune of being born and raised there) and other holes of a similar ilk. If you want a combination of roundabouts either Swindon of MK has it.

My favorite roundabout is the one in hertfordshire where the quickest way to go straight on is to go anticlockwise round it......

Before anyone screams with horror it's a f'ing huge roundabout with about 10 satelite (mini roundabouts) round the outside of it.

As a result you can go straight on by driving the rightway round the satelite roundabouts whilst going the wrong way round the large one.....

And it's soooo much fun!!!

If I see someone comming towards me with fogs on in non foggy conditions, I unleash the power of Xeons, Mainbeams, and fog lights at them all at once :lol: Its good fun

Ah well the tricks to do it once they've nearly passed you. that way they dont get a chance to mainbeam you back, and can hopefully keep going in a straight line.

We've got a mini-double roundabout thing here in town. Well, not in the centre, but close. When my instructor took me to it a good few years ago he said that if you went there on a test, you would have to signal on and off both islands :shock:

Once you've passed your test, you can do what everyone else does and barrel straight over the top of 'em, and let people guess where you're heading :|

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence, or if
  • someone cuts you up
    you see a mate
    you are a taxi driver making a pick-up in a quiet residential street.
    you see a fit girl walking down the street
