goes to one side a bit

hey all

just bought some alloys put them on the weekend

think its the tracking or something
but when driving pulls a bit to the left

also when braking steering goes really stiff and goes to left

madness
think its time for a visit to the wheel place to get them balanced and tracking done
any one know how much this will cost?

bit slower but handles corners alot more better

Wider tyres exagurate any tracking issues so if you don't want to trash your tyres in a very short space of time pay the £20 to get the tracking checked and adjusted.

Balancing is about £2.50 per wheel

If it's pulling to one side under braking I'd be checking the brakes on both sides

ie one could be grabbing hence the pull to that side

or one could be seized on the other side leading to a pull on the other

Guru b'stard...i have a problem too...no not the bladder issue..i wear nappies for that now...under heavy braking my steering wheel wobbles about like crazy...what is it?

Hmmm - not viewing my self as one of them on here!

If it wobbled under normal braking too but only slightly I'd point you in the dirrection of brake discs being warped - but if it's only under heavy braking I'd say a likely cause would be one of your shocks has lost some of it's damping properties

It's hard to diagnose stuff unless you have actually driven the car

when i put on my new wheels, i had this problem. i drove for about a week and it sorted itself out :shock:

just give it 100 miles to see if its got better.

parking miles away from kerbs? really? how many miles? lol :lol:

agree with bstardchild, the pulling over car to left on breaking could very well be a warped disc, this wud also explain the shuddering you getting! the the allignment done and wheels balanced up! 8)

Just had the Tracking done went after work and they were all the mechs were all outside waiting for customers

guy said my tracking is fine and i had balancing done before

so what could be wrong ? :(

^^ Take a look at the brakes? Make sure like bstardchild said, the discs check out OK and that the calipers aren't sticking :)

shouldnt be a problem with 15x6.5 wheels with the correct offset.
prob needs to be run in,
and ive been told by my dealer that EVERY VW pulls to the left for safety reasons, so if u fall asleep at the wheel, u dont end up on the opp side of the road, and instead a big tree or a 3ft ditch :P

Shouldn't if the set up is correct - offset width and diameter make no difference to camber and tracking.

Classic one - what you actually are doing is wearing the tyres down so that they present a flat surface to the road again - in doing so you screw your tyres and make it very hard for a wheel alignment centre to do the tracking or camber

New tyres is the perfect oportunity to get the tracking/alignment done with the added bonus that the tyres last longer

The roads we drive on have a camber - thats what should stop you not the set up on the car - if it's constantly pulling on all roads it's wrong

- not a design feature

- not a safety benefit

Lazy dealer - car under warrenty? and they don't want to do anything
