Knocking noise from engine

hi all im new to this forum so first of all hi to everyone.

I have a Mk2 polo 1.3 cl i have had it bout 2 months now and its a good car but as off last week there has been a knocking noise from within the engine (i think) it is not consistant and some times it goes away it changes some times when revs are appllied does any body have any ideas on wot this could be.

i seem to have a similar problem to maker boy, tho in my 9n. The noise is most noticeable when just releasing the accelerator - i.e during gear shifts.

A mate's suggested it might be the belt related??
