undiagnosed sound from near temp sender unit, please help!

Hello.

Sometimes when my 16v is idling, a sound starts up from near where the temp sensor is (the one that always needs replacing under the distibutor).

It's like a squeel, and it's definitely in time to the revs of the engine. It starts suddenly, and stops suddenly and is not constant.

Can anyone give me ideas as to what this could be please? I have taken the distributor apart and wd40-ed the arm but it's happening again. Perhaps it could be oil starvation to the distributor shaft?
