What Handbrakes Fits In A Mk4 Polo?

Post by Bedi »

after a leather handbrake for my MK4

Will the handbrakes from the following vehicle fit in my MK4 Polo?

MK3 Golf GTI/VR6

Logic says that it should fit since allot of the components of the two cars are similar... But I still need confirmation

also does anyone know how much the handbrake from the POLO GTI costs?

Cheers

The mk4 handbrake lever has different mounting points, so it would sit off centre if you lob it straight in. With some work it should be possible.

The mk3 handbrake lever is nearly identical as the Polo unit, but you need to loosen the cable a lot, it has a different lever point making it necesary (sp) to adjust the cable. Easy peasy though. The plastic cover that fits around the lever is a tight fit but it'll go.

I've not tried the Polo GTI lever yet, but it might fit. Not very helpful I know...

I have mounted a 2000 polo GTI hanbrake in my 95 mk4, mounting points are a perfect match, but as speedlaw said about lossening the cable, this has to be done on the GTI handbrake also, The biggest problem is that the mk4 plastic cover wount fit, and the GTI handbrake interiour thingy is moulded togeter with the ashtray and some other stuff, but a little modification and your banging.. I shall post some pictures when i start modifing mine.
