...what differant engine combinations give more liters
for instance a post on porka that linked to auto trader which had a 1600 mk3 with a polo head and a bora block and internals

so does the polo head fit a bora block
also what other internals would go on and give more cc???

i'm feelin a 1600 in a mk2

1.4 8v from mk4 polo

1.4 16V iirc from golf/polo/lupo ect (not 100% sure if this fits direct)

1.6 8v from golf/polo

GT from mk3 polo

G40 from mk3 polo

all i know of that are direct fit

Im very sceptical about that bora conversion tbh. the way steve sherwood described the engine sounded to me like it was completely standard. (carb manifold and carb could have easily been mistaken for injection manifold and injector as they share the same airbox and look fairly similar. I wish i had gone down to look at it id have been able to spot any oddities straight away. (but I live 300 miles from it  ) Steve doesnt have alot of mk3 experience apart from his G40!  8) I suppose the only way to know for sure will be to drive the thing!

The list mr keel has put up is about right, theres a 1.4 8v golf engine too (which is what i have in mine) and is the same engine design as a mk2/3 polo. all the other 1.4 and 1.6 engines listed have a differently designed cylinder head in one way or another and the bottom ends are all bigger bore. Also theyre a bolt short when it comes to the alternator engine mount so none of these are an easy swap. Best options are GT, 1400GT (like mine which uses GT injection on the 1.4 golf engine) or G40

If you put a 1.6 from a Mk4 into your car you'll get 75bhp same as a GT engine.

Problem is it won't be set up for enthusiastic driving like a GT engine, so it'll be slower to drive, however it will be more refined on the motorway due to taller gears and more cc.

Plus it'll cost you an extra £40 (IIRC) every year cos of tax over the GT and the wiring will also be a complete pain in the ass compared to a GT conversion.

If you put a 1.6 16v Bora engine in your car you get 105bhp, which is only 5bhp over the 1.4 16v Polo engine. I'd go for the 1.4 out of the two, doesn't make that much sense to go for a bigger engine that doesn't get much more power, again think road tax. However both the 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines will be an equal ballache to fit.

If you want to go 1.6, the best thing to get is a 1.6 16v Lupo GTi engine and 6 speed gearbox. That's 125bhp from the off, which justifies the extra road tax costs. I know I keep going on about it, but there's no point in paying extra for no gain! Problem is again you're still looking at a complete 'mare in terms of fitting it for all sorts of reasons and it still won't be as fast or easy to tune as a G40 engine.

I know this because I spent ages looking at engine conversions for mine, and decided against each one in turn. I really wanted to go 1.6 16v, then at some point whack a turbo on it. If you're wondering, TSR do this kit and it gets 185bhp out of the 1.4 16v. Think what that'd be like on a 1.6!

Really though, Gareth's got it in one, your best options are GT, 1.4 (or 1.5 - that can be done) GT or a G40. If you're feeling brave and have lots to spend then go down the 1.6 16v route but get a red top Lupo/Polo GTi engine, if possible the Lupo as I said because of some of them having a6 speed 'box. I'd love to see it done, but personally I've opted to go down the supercharged route. All weighed up it makes a lot of sense.

so wiring is a cow to do

so what the deal with a diesel crank giveing a longer stroke and increasing cc???

how do i make a MH more fun??? apart from higher compression and twin downpipe zorst?? looks like the G40 is not going to happen in the near future due to them being rare :D

for the MH up rate your exhaust for a full system, mines a straight through system with only a back box and 2" bore

134mph top end proven with speed camera

9.7 - 60mph proven at trax

and thats all i've done 8)

only problem is you will start to lose valves due to lack of back pressure and its loud as hell but on idle it sounds exactly like an Rs Turbo as one Rs owner pointed out to me when he said mine sounded better than his

That must've been a huge huge huge hill you were going down, either that or your exhaust has netted you 35bhp...

whats the point in going for a bidg heavy 1.6 8v engine that only pushes 75 bhp standard, if I were you I would either get a gt engine as they are the dogs, and will look right in the engine bay, or tune a 1.3 mh or 2g engine up like me. The polos only a light car and I reckon a standard 1.3 polo could cream a 1.6 8v golf.

if i take the newer ride as a reasonably like-for-like example, you wouldn't be far wrong..... if you chose the NZ or GT engines anyway. The standard 1.3 carb (or spi conversion) would be a close run thing (with the golf coming out just about on top), perhaps a dead heat.

only as a rough guess of course, on non-tuned engines.

have a look at my previous post 0-60,
i did 1 the other night with my mate, and bearing in mind the cars running terribly [overfueling] it did it in 11 and a half secs which aint bad! :)

the 1.6 is a good quick car, and if put into a polo.... would be quicker, and then you got the moddin potential.... sounds like a plan! 8)

see now thats what i was thinking :D

but then agine after takein the polo for a little drive after months of being parked up i like the 1.3 in the polo

how much bhp and touqe can a MH make with

ported and polished head
early maifold and twin downpipe
cam
a webber carb
and a performance zorst
