Buying a Polo

Hi all, I have been reading your forum for some time now, with the intenstion to buy a Polo 2001 Model (blue dials).

I would like to get the 16v 100bhp, but unfortunatley these cars are rare and expensive. My only other option is to go for a 1.4 75bhp SE or a colour concept. Are these any good, Well fast?

I will be buying it from a VW dearlership, is there anying that I should take note of? Known problems etc.

I currently drive a Renault Clio1.4 rt with 80bhp (more like 70) so I expect the Polo's bulit quality to be 100% better.

The 75bhp Polo can't really be described as "Well Quick" but it is refined, you'll notice this immediately.

The 100bhp 16v is a nice engine, but you are right that they are not easy to get hold of.

I'd maybe hold out for a 100bhp 16v if you can... I suppose it's all about insurance though... The 75bhp car is a nice motor... Although some people have mentioned that the older 1.4 8v (60bhp) feels quicker - which is probably down to it's torque figures.

The 8v car should feel quicker because 8v engines deliver their torque in lower engive revs than 16v ones.

It's only natural as it takes more time to build up pressure in a place that's got more holes for the air to escape. So even if the figures show that a 16v engine is ultimately more torquey, the torque will come at higher engine revs.

Of course that's should not be the case with the most modern engines, but those from the '80s until the mid-'90s suffered that problem (Citroën ZX 16V for instance, or maybe VWs 1.4s which are not that recent anyway).

ive got the 1.4 8v and with a little work to the engine (cat back exaust, kn, reworked throttle body, reworked exaust manifold, power system) i can surprise quite a few people
however i think that the block on this engine is the same as a g40 so that means its puistons fit if you wanna go FI but the 1.6 internals can go in too but thats swapping crank, rods, pistons and the ecu the g40 swap is pistons, rrods, crank, head, ecu and fit the blower theres quite a bit you can do to the 1.4 really
