I'm sorry, but, this ones about wheels, again.....

Post by pologlx34 »

Got my eye on some TSW's which have previously been fitted to a honda, 4x100 et 38 with 195/45 yoko's on. But the only thing i'm not sure about is the centre bore, i'm no wheel expert and i dont know if i should be worrying about this or not. Is there any difference between the bore on VW wheels and honda wheels? Also, car is currently at stock height and i know you guys would condemn me to death if i proposed fititng 16's without lowering it ;) So, should i be looking at a complete new supsension set up? How much is it going to cost me?

Thanks, and sorry for asking the same damn questions as everyone else

Stud PCD and offset look fine for a polo

but

TSW in the trade stands for Terribly Soft Wheels

If you like them and do decide to buy them - firstly inspect the wheels to see how much lead has been added to the wheel rims to balnce them - if it's a lot (more than say 35gm) get him (the seller) to take em to a tyre fitting place where you can get them spun up on a wheel balance machine - If they don't spin true and I think it's highly likely they won't with TSW's deserved reputation for bending and going out of true when you look at them walk away

JM2pW and sorry if I offend anyone else with TSW wheels - they are cheap for a reason

Sorry meant to answer your other questions in the last post

Stock height and 15's it's gonna look bus high - when I stuch 15" BBS RX 2's on mine I was amazed at how high it made the car look - have a look at my car in members rides and see the difference before and after the wheels and also before and after the springs were fitted

16's it'll look like it's on stilts IMHO

Either way - set of 30-40mm lowering springs is a cheap cacceptable solution that will bring the arches closer to the rims and make the car look much better

One word of warning do try to get progressive springs rather than single rate so the ride quality doesn't suffer and they should be avaliable for max £100

Don't forget to get your tracking done as soon as you fit the springs or your tyres will be scrap in a few weeks

I know the stud pc and offset is fine, i need to know about the centre bore.

The wheels are off a show car (and it sure as hell does look like one 8) 8) ) But i'll have a good look. I'm told that 60 mm is what i should be looking at and for that surely i'm going to need shorten shocks, ie new ones? Dont want to put some crappy budget lowering springs on my original shocks then have them bottom out going over speed bumps!!!! Dont really want be dropping money on my car to have it look "acceptable" lol, it looks acceptable now ;)

I'm out shortly and I'll go and measure one of my spares

I would - like I said they don't have a very good reputation

60mm would be fine but as you say not on the std shocks - you're into coilover area really once you go past 40mm - and in that area you pays yer money and takes your choice - have a look at Dubpolo's car in members rides - he's curently running on my BBS Splities while I refurb his and is dropped I think 75mm on coilovers - I think its too low but he likes it!!! Trouble with coilovers is the lower you go the softer they are so the more likely you are to bottom out on bumps

As for crappy budget lowering springs - I've never bottomed mine out on bumps even with 4 adults in the car so I'll stick with that
