Flip Key

Post by PhilGTi »

I know that there are thousands of tutorials showing how todo a flip key before you say USE THE SEARCH BUTTON, i did that already! What i want to know is, how much work is it to make my car's central locking into remote central locking? I assume i will have to get a receiver for inside the car and have the flip key programmed to it at VW?

I despiratly wanna do this, i hate the current crappy key!

How much am i looking at for getting a flip key, having the blade cut, reprogramming the remote and installing a receiver in the car?

Phill.

Wouldn't mind doing this either, apparently you can rip the remote central unit locking out of a mk4 golf or mk6 polo (providing they also have the key at the scrap yard). Then all you need to do is change the switchblade. Doing it this way you can avoid having to reprogram the keyfob. I wouldn't mind knowing how much cost/work is involved either, would Love a DIY guide from someone who has already done it

Mine was a piece off p***. Got hold of a Golf Mk4 flip key and a blank switchblade. Went to key cutting place in town and got him to match the blank switchblade to my spare, then took the immobiliser chip out of the spare and swapped it with the flip key one. Took out the flip key switchblade and replaced with my newly cut one.

Opened up the bottom half, took out the chipboard, took the chipboard out of my spare remote central locking fob, cut it down to size using a craft knife, carefully avoiding the connections, put a bit of conductive strip around the back to relocate the battery, and two tiny bits of wooden fork to reposition the buttons. Clipped it all back together and i've now got a fully functional flip key.*

*I say fully functional, sometimes you have to press hard on the unlocking button but hey, it's a small price to pay.

Total cost:

Flip Key- £15 including del
Blank switchblade- £6 including del
Key cutting- £4
Time- 1 hour

So for £25, it's a worthwhile mod.:)

Tom..

Before you had a flippy key, you had remote central locking before - Yeah ?

I dont think polosilver has Remote locking (Just Central Locking).

Is there a way for us (With Central Locking - But no Remote) to have remote locking ?

Theres a topic on the mkIV forum called "will I break my key?" on page one. You might find it relevant.
