I'm beginning to have doubts. The specs on that package read pretty much the same as the MKV GTI.
Still, I will ask VW and get back to you guys.
Deek.
So, will we see a new Polo GTI the near future?
I saw in Auto Express a week ago shots of the new Polo GTI...it looks very similar to the Golf GTI with the grille and even similar alloy wheels!
It will be powered by the trusty 1.8T engine...been looking around for some shots on the web but not having much luck...looks good but will cost around £15.5k but fully spec'd up...the photo did not show Xenons, so not sure if they will be included...

I've got a meeting with VW next week, so I will be pursing these questions and doubts quite hard with them. Hopefully I'll be able to bring you guys some answers.
Thing is, we've heard so many different rumours about the Polo GTI for so long now...
... first it was going to be the 180hp 1.8T,
... then it was changed to a 160hp 1.6 FSI turbo (because the 1.8T was said to not meet new (Euro IV?) emission standards), and now we're back at...
... a 150hp 1.8T.
To my mind this makes it no different to the petrol Ibiza FR package. It'd be a bit dissappointing if VW aren't going to position the Polo GTI (if it appears) against the petrol Ibiza Cupra (180hp 1.8T).
Then, despite all the above, the first thing to be seen in the metal is a previously unheard of Fox variant.
The only positive spin I can think of is that the Fox would be badged Sport (maybe GTI, but I do hope VW don't go down the "GTI variant of every model" route) over here and offers the performance of the previous Polo/Lupo GTI. This would leave a gap for a new Polo GTI to fit into above the performance of this new development and below the performance of the Golf GTI -- any of the previously rumoured engines would allow it to do this.
Just thoughts.

I read in Auto Express that the UK version of the Fox Sport is 73bhp, so I'd guess similar performance to a Mk3 Polo GT maybe slightly slower. Hardly Lupo GTI material!
The new Polo range should, if VW follow plans, include a 150bhp 1.8T engined Polo GTI. The most powerful Polo ever released, but doubtful it'll be the fastest. Should be easy to get more power from the 1.8T though I'd have thought.
However, it should have been given the 180bhp 1.8T IMHO. Why this is not the case, who knows.
(Dreams of a 225bhp Polo 1.8T GTI with 4wd, TT Style... nah, dream on!)
