17's or 16's

Post by EdN »

I noticed a some 17's on a Mk5 polo the other day with 205/40/17 tyres. Surely the speedo gets screwed up?

The gti has 195/45/15 then you can put 16's on with 195/40/16, surely 17's are a no-no with 205/40/17.

go for 17s! the gearing is a bit longer, but high speed handling improves.

The problem with 16s is that unless your really careful choosing the style, they look too big for euro style and to small for brit style.

The speedo does get a bit screwed up, actually- The Germans are required to re-set their speedo to reduce the margin of error. It's one of the TüV requirements after fitting 17's.

i run 195 45 15 bridgestones and am always at -60 or below with no rubbing even at -12cm it doesnt scrub at all as long as the coils are set hard. the problem at -12 is that the driver side drive shaft hitts the chassis leg
