Advice about running treble from the boot

Post by david burton »

Yes, it's a very "chav" thing to do many of you may think, but I do go to the car shows and display my boot install on our club stand, so I want to produce something that will help things in this regard.

I would like to get some tweeters (and/or mids) somewhere in the boot, as the stereo will be playing at the shows with the boot open. I don't want to spend much cash as that would be ridiculous, I just want to have the sound so it is coherent rather than just bassy.

The speakers will run off my headunit (both channels are free) and I will use the rears - so when I'm at the shows I will fade it to the rear, and on the road I will fade back to the front.

Can anyone advise me here, or offer suggestions?

what have you currently got? if you want good mid range you'll want 17cms but only running off your head unit you're prob only looking at about 40W RMS im guessing, but how loud do you want it?

surely the bass/treble fades when you open the boot neways doesn't it...?

theres no such thing as a head unit that does 40 watts RMS (unless you means a total figure rather than per channel.)

pretty much every head unit on the market is rated in max power. even those 4x60 alpine V drive head untis were about 4 x22 watts rms.

davidd, the way you have described it is pretty much the cheapest option and best way to do it. I personally would but given that its a show car the i suppose its fair enough.

best option would be to box up a set of coaxs firing out of the boot, you could run them free air but would sort of defeat the purpose of the object as they would sound pretty awful with the boot open.

i thought i might get the coaxes - i know it's not the best for sound, but i do like going to the shows....

it is one of those alpine jobbies - 4x60w, but that's max power
