K&N 57i

Post by morudy »

Hi i have seen a K&N 57i for £67.00...is that a good price? Wot this make a sweet noise even tho i have not got a sports exhaust on the car? Also should i expect a BIG difference in petrol usage figures? If people on here have this can they give advice and their experiences!?

My 1.4 8V is nippy but sometimes i feel it could do with more power so i think this is a step in the right direction.

Thanx

Expect a little bit better pickup, with an exhaust it may be slightly louder, not that noticable though, mpg no differnce tbh

unfortunately it's not a good move if you mount it on top of the engine. the warmer the air that enters the engine, the more power you lose. some chaps have put the filter at the end of the tube that feeds the airbox - a good solution IMO.

it won't add much power at all. If any. Nor should it affect your mpg. However, it will sound better so you may floor your car more often, causing the mpg to fall

if all you want is a deep sound - as chav as it seems - drilling the airbox can have that effect

the 8v is massively restricted as an engine, you need to do a HELL of a lot to get anywhere near 80-90bhp. cam, head work, decat, manifold, polishing, gas flowed work and so on.

keep your eyes peeled for when someone released a chip - I think there are some available, over on porka a guy sells them. don't know what they are like tho

true but the amount of torque that engine produces...i am afraid i wont ba able to get the power i want out of my little Polo wel not without investing around 7 grand in it and a 1.8Turbo conversion so i have to look at something elce!

Obviously still will have to be a VW 8)

Dont really want to see the Polo go!

Gear box is different. But iirc the loom is the same. I will check and get back to you.

often people put the longer ratio gearbox in with the 16v (rather than the short ratio 16v box). This makes for better cruising on the motorway....

so in theory that means the 16V lump should go in no problems and with out much to change? :? can a supercharger or turbo be added to the 16V?

yes, the 16v engine is comparitively easy to do (?!)

a turbo conversion is possible, and there are kits available. however, if you are going to get a new engine and then turbo it - you'd be better sourcing a g40 engine.

with the G40 i will need the loom, ecu along with the engine and gear box so that seems like a big job. How much should i expect to pay all in all? G40 is 1.3 supercharged right :?:
