Flush tailgate fitting

I can get a tailgate from my work (cheap) for a VW POLO 6N (R-reg).
I was going to buy it and flush it then fit it to my POLO GTI (Y-reg)

I know the older tailgate has a number plate recess on it which my one does not have and think the rear wipers are different but will this fit my GTI or are they different tailgates ? ?

Has anyone done this before ??
