automatic gearbox problem

Post by andy35554 »

Hi, new to the forum here! I have a 97 polo 1.4 6N (not 16V) with an automatic gearbox. The car has 20k on the clock and is near perfect condition but I have a problem with the auto gearbox.
When cold, ie first thing in the morning the car will pull away ok and sometimes jolts quite hard when the gearbox selects second gear. 3rd and 4th are ok. Once it is warm it doesnt seem to do it or if i accellerate a bit harder when it is cold but i dont like doing that. Can anyone shed some light on this as it is a bit annoying and I am hoping it is a simple fix. According to the haynes manual the auto gearbox is sealed for life so I have not tried to investigate any further.
thanks in advance

No dipstick so can't check level - haynes say take to VW to have level checked - thats what I'd recommend you do

It's not what I'd do but we shan't go into that

my sister had a 99 'v' reg 1.4cl auto, and hers has always jolted from first to second when you first drive it, we all just accepted it as the way the car was - is it actually fixable?
