GTI wheels...?

Post by Grum »

i have the standard polo gti wheels but i was asked why i dont have a plished rim on them....

since then i noticed a few other polo's and they had polished/diamond cut rims... should they be like this as standard?

one of my wheels has small paint chips on the rim and what appears to be a diamond cut finish under the paint, this makes me think that my wheels have been refurbed by the previous owner...?

Yo Grum,

As far as I'm aware the BBS RXII that came on the GTIs had a diamond cut rim, however these are prone to corroding and so many have gone the refurbishing route, as as diamond cutting can be quite expensive I guess many have resorted to having them just painted over...this may just be the case for your wheels...you can tell if they are diamond cut if you look closely at the rim it will appear to have 'lines' and when looking in bright light the rim will look 'sparkly' with multi-colours! Nice!

i've put my wheels in for refurbing this week, and opted out of the diamond cut edge route because they guy said they are not as resilient as the powder coating so would only last two or three years before water damage to the laquer - so i'm having them powder coated in black crome, hope i've not made a mistake

Nah, I think that was a wise move, I had mine refurbished earlier this year and I think they might already be starting to corrode...the guy who did mine said the same and that owners normally have them diamond cutted the first time and then have them powder coated the next...think I might go down that route next time, have the rims in brilliant silver and the centres in a normal metallic silver...or gunmetal grey...
