yay! yay! and no visible damage neither. just had to figure out to lift it up at BOTH ends when jiggling it free.

was going to put this in the existing thread but that's already chocka'd with piccies, and i've got another 17 (~300kb total) to stick in, plus a link to a video if i can ever get it hosted ;)
(whee, self indulgent excess)

first up, here's the nice, secure jacking solution :) solid-as

looking better in the sunlight, i tried some different angles and approaches... still, progress was slow

"suddenly, there was a change" #swing rhythm kicks in#

at this point i had images of you've-been-framed hilarity ensuing, so just in case £250 was in the offing i switched to video mode. i'm most impressed by how my camera managed to keep stamina up for a good 19 minutes of near-VHS-quality 30fps mode. sound was bobbins though, and the action was slow, and so here i present to you...
the silent, london-to-brighton-in-4-minutes version of me extricating the thing :D (all of 1 min 16 seconds). feel free to provide your own benny hill theme music.

http://uk-polos.groovycarrot.co.uk/tahr ... eddivx.avi

you'll need divx of course, and maybe a 2x zoom (reduced to 256x192). no more than that though as i really went to town on the compression and it'll start looking like lego
(992kb, got a good 11kb/sec out of the crocus server on a test run so shouldn't take much longer to load than to play)

liberty base to houston control... the seagull has landed :) leaving the orbital module, um i mean clutch, exposed. hope it's ok like that.
Image Image

bit of (even more) mindless self indulgence: on extracting myself from the werkin's i found an unexpected present, allowing one to partake in that great british tradition dontcha know... a good cuppa after a dirty slog
that's definately an "O" not an "A", i know i have dyslexic fingers sometimes but i double checked!
Image Image

all was not 100% well however, as i found i had fallen prey to the dreaded Claggy Splunge, and swiftly experienced a trio of WTF moments.
Namely, wtf is that stain (gearbox oil :(), wtf is that orifice (??!!)...
Image Image

...wtf is that pipe, and "wtf, should there really be SO MUCH dirt and gunk inside the bellhousing, where, yknow, the clutch lives?"
Image Image

in any case, it's all dropped now, time to scoot this one into the shed (+ drain the oil, open case, see how difficult a diff swap may be), remove the mount, and go pick up a replacement CEG from DaveG40@porka... ;)
Image Image

a couple of zoom details to finish with...
pretty sure THAT isnt supposed to be there! .... and, code confirmed, serial number revealed - RIP AKY 280808?

(phew! finished!)

Nice one :D It always comes off eventually, it's just a bit of a bugger before it all finally clicks into (or rather, out of) place ;)

Don't worry about the oil etc, that pipe is some sort of vent that runs straight into the housing, if you tip up the box oil pours out of it, nothing unusual there. The bellhousing also tends to be a bit s**t like that, I guess it's years of clutch dust and vented oil vapour mingling together :? At least that's all you found in yours, when I seperated my original gearbox from the engine I found one of the clutch release bearing springs in several pieces throughout the bellhousing and the starter motor, must have come loose and got torn apart by the clutch itself

Should have deliberately sabotaged the operation and got £250 out of it.. enough for a GT upgrade ;)

lol i was fully expecting something was going to happen all by itself - the original is good enough quality and 1:1 speed suitable for YBF'ing ... somehow i had an angel (one that doesn't understand the delicate finances of publicly broadcasted humiliation) sitting on my shoulder for that bit :D

now i've gotta clean up the 5sp i got from DaveG40 offa porka (nice chap, got some flak recently which made me wary but ill-deserved it seems), maybe figure out the ratios (initial noodling suggests its an 8P, as gaz said, though dave himself and his copy of ETKA say its a GT box), maybe drain the oil from the old one and crack it open.... then mate up the new bunny and see if it runs. be cool if i could get it insured and tested in time for a college run ;)

i do have a friend of my aunt's sniffing round though, i may try to stall til she's off the case and gets something else. for some reason she's still car-less since her previous heap got pranged back in May. maybe she thinks i'll take pity and give her a bargain for the same price as a fiesta that's got about as much life left in it as it's tax disc ... sorry love, i've already lent my bike to someone at work, that's my transportational charity for the month, its full price or owt.

ps carlsbergs was it? as thats what i've got a 4 pack of in the boot :D
