F**KED Central Locking

I drive a 1997 polo 1.4 8v. The other night I went to unlock my car, as I was unlocking it I heard a click and didn’t think anything of it. That same night when I went to lock the door nothing happened, the next day I managed to take the door panel off and I found that I had broken a piece of metal that links the door lock to the central locking mechanism. I spent all day going to scrap yards to look for the component but I haven’t had any luck. I was wondering has anyone had the same problem and how do I go about fixing it?
