MKV POLO SDI front door speaker replacement

Post by zahir_213 »

Hi all,
Got my MKV polo sdi last week, ive already upgraded the headunit to a sony CDX-MP40, and now i want to change the factory speakers. I can see that there must be tweeters and then speakers lower down the door. I need to know how to take the door apart to get at the factory speakers. Also is there a facotry crossover inbuilt somewhere that i need to disconnect?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Zahir

you need to remove the door pannel on the mk5 and the cross over is built into the tweeter that is the mirror backing plate
(if you want a hand getting the door trim off just ask)

righty tighty then here we go:
open the door
look at the front edge of the door card near the mirror and you shiould find a small black phillips screw, remove it
then pull on the chromed handle on the inside and insert a screw driver into the hole at the rear so the screw driver is going back into the door and lever off the middle of the big 45 degree handle lever off the middle of the handle (this may take some force there are 3 clips)
this will reveal 2 large pozidrive screws which you need to remove.
if you have fitted new door pins then remove them now
then get a large flat bladed screwdriver and insert it under the bottom edge of the door pannel and lever the bottom edge off ( you may find that the pannel is held in place in the flat area which butts up to the dash but a good tug releases it), then pull so the sides unclip too, the pannel will now be hinged on the top edge and the wires for the electric windows will be holding it back, just reach up and unplug them
the top edge then pulls towards you and the pannel is then nearly free exept for 3 small pozidrive screws that hold on teh mirror adjuster (manual)
and then the pannal should be free

In 6N and 6N2 (1996-2002) Polo's, the woofer's in the doors are 16.5cm.

In the 6N (1996 - 1999) the Tweeters sit in the dash under a grille and in the 6N2 (1999 - 2002) the Tweeters are hidden behind a grille next to the door mirror.

Hope this helps

easy

cut some thin wood O shapes. make the outside circle 16cm and the inside 13cm

make sure you use a thin wood though otherwise the speaker will stick out
