Cam Belt Change

Post by fitzy »

Hi there,

I want to change the cam belt on my 16V (1.4 1998 6N), but Im not sure what I need to buy. Im over in Ireland where the car was never orignally sold so getting parts is a pain. My options are gsf or eurocarparts (vw dealer is a last resort) but the sites are not that clear as in what I need, can anyone please help me? (do I just need the belt or is there a timing kit inc. tensioners etc?)

i think it's quite a big job to get to the timing belt, so you may as well replace the tensioners whilst you're there. Also check the water pump - is it leaking, does it run smoothly? No point in replacing your timing belt for your water pump to do the same damage shortly after!

VW sell a cam belt kit which isn't much more than G&F's after the VAT & P&P, it contains the belt and tensioner.
