Well after the vw garage messed up again and dismantled my worn clutch before checking that'd they actually got the correct new one (bunch of monkey boys) i now have 3 vw polos!
My old 1996 mk4 (which i'm selling if anyone interested), my new 2000 GTi and now a courtesy car 2005 sport!! Must be a record!
Does anyone else have problems with vw approved dealers?

Yup, pretty much anytime either of my Polos have been near a VW Dealership they have messed up.
Lookers Teesside are the best. Last time I went for a service I wanted some other stuff doing. For some reason they believed that I had just bought the car from them, and that it was under a used-warranty. So they didnt do half the work I asked. When servicing it, they disconnected one of the leads on the AirCon, which meant it stopped working. Had to take it back to them to find out what the problem was.
I could go on....

Sorry to hear that, it wasn't a Sheffield dealer by any chance was it?
Well, when I had my car in for the pedal box recall, it was working fine...I booked it in, they said that they had everything and it was ready to go...drop it off...then came back to pick it up...only to be told that they couldn't fix the car as they hadn't ordered a clip that was needed to refit the new pedal box back...so I thought a few days...no problem...turns out that that VW had ran out of stock of the clip and that they were waiting for some new supplies from Germany...man was I peed off, was then told that 9 out of 10 times this clip would break when replacing the pedal box...only that VW had forgotten to ensure that they had plenty of stock of these clips before making the recall! Had to wait three weeks before I had it fixed...so probably the only time that a car goes in working fine only to be broken by the dealer!

Nah not sheffield.
Just had a call from them saying they've fitted the clutch but noticed that i have a fuel leak from the filter
It just go on and on. No end of problems and i've only had the car 5 weeks! 'Buy with confidence' is the vw approved used motto - wot a load of b*llox! The warranty is worthless.
Oh well at least they've given me the courtesy car til Monday cos they've can't get the part til tomorrow afternoon.

I say it every time, VW have terrible dealerships.
First I used a local VW dealership 3 or 4 times, 50% of the time they would book the car in without having the parts avail. Never get back to me to tell me its ready etc (me always chasing).
Then I used a VW dealership near my work, been in 3 times and they still can't fix a relatvily simple problem (I'm gonna do it myself to save hastle). Not to mention blowing a speaker which they denied.
New dealership opened up locally. I decided to use them for some parts cause I needed them quick. Dunno bout anyone else but the phone systems they have in VW dealership is retarded, when they put u on hold for more than a min or two u end up back with the receptionist who thinks your a new caller (wtf?). The person who I delt with at the parts dept was terrible, took the payment over the phone and hung up without telling me when the parts will arrive, or to confirm which parts I ordered. I had to call back and go through the same BS with reception to get back through to the same guy who was useless again.
VW rely on the reputation of reliability from the older VW's far too much. Many of the newer models don;t come with that, I love my polo but I am loosing my confidence in VW.

my vw dealer were privately owned when i got my polo in 2001 and they were superb, couldn't do enough for me!!
then they got taken over by a main vw dealer and many of the long term staff left and standards dropped!!
one time the car was in for a service, it came away with a bit more than i expected!! a dent in either wing (in identical positions!!), spilt oil in the engine bay and wot looked like a bodged service!
me a dad kicked up a stink and in all fairness they took responsibility for it all.
got the dents done, got it re-serviced, cleaned inside and out, and it was all done for free!!
and so they should!!!!!

I haven't had any trouble with my local dealership to be honest, every time I've been they have been friendly and more than helpful enough, I really can't complain. As for the parts department, well the guy who works the most hours there used to work with me at Somerfield some time back, so we get on really well, have a bit of a natter whilst he's going through ETKA for the part numbers and stuff.
Back in the summer I was in and out of the dealership quite a lot for various minor issues with the car; new alternator, annual service, boot lock, few other things, and for a few weeks they reduced the labour charges for the work done on the car to half price as a gesture of goodwill
I'm happy to say that I can't relate to the poor levels of service you guys are getting, all I can say is I hope things pick up sooner rather than later! After all, post-sales work and maintenance is where the money is for the dealerships, so they should be doing their best to keep their customers satisfied
