thermostat housing

I just bought a new thermostat housing and was wondering whether i needed to remove the removeable tube that runs through it?

the tube that runs through the middle of the housing unit?

just phoned up the vw spares parts department and they said that if u remove the tube running through the middle, it makes the thermostat not work properly.

I didn't realise that a faulty thermostat makes the car overfuel, if the car is overcooling around the 70 degrees mark it makes the car overfuel. Probably my thermostat was too old. lol
