Rattles?

Post by funkyfatbeatz »

After driving the Polo last night I noticed a few rattles.
Are there any common rattles that all MkIVs have?

Don't know about common rattles to be honest, but I do know that mine rattles if driven on bad roads. Apart from that, the air intake hose is held down with a clamp, and that clamp works itself loose once in a while. I just tighten it every so often, and then it's quiet again. If it's loose, you'll hear a nasty loud metal-to-metal rattle coming from the right front side of the car, in my case from 2000-2500 rpm.

Does yours rattle 'somewhat, everywhere', or 'a lot, specific enough to point out'?

I have both, at times.

Thanks for the reply Alex,

I mainly get rattles from the dash, I think it's coming
from the passenger side dash speaker. I think I might take it
apart and have a look. The other rattle is on the plastic around
the steering wheel/column, again this needs to be taken apart
and looked at. The final one is the central console, radio/heater
switches etc.

I'm gonna have a good look at it on the weekend.

Does the steering wheel make a scraping kind of noise? if it does try and squirt a bit of wd-40 in there (where the two moving parts meet) that'l sort that.Is your other rattle just that or does it bang when you go over a bump?
