Cutting out and not starting

Post by polokris »

hey guys... lil problem....

As u all know that it dont STOP RAINING in Wales.... Car is developing a lil problem in the Wet...

never done it b4... but here goes.....

driving home on the M4.... not far from aqua plaining... thats how bad it was.... doing about 70... put the pedle down and it starts to splutter as if its dropped a cylinder, come off the throttle. and it coasts fine... (in gear) put my foot down half way...and its fine... altho it needs a lil more to keep going.... so i put it down a lil bit... fires on 2/3 cylinders again.... sooo... come off the motorway... and it jus dies..... nothin... dont wanna fire up! wont start, just as if its been starved of petrol....

waiting for the Fiancee to rescue me (lol) (bringin WD40 - wot i asked 4 )

sprayed it on the Coil, Distributor, and my leads.... takes a few seconds to turn the engin over.... and it firs up... little splutter.... but its goin again...

WOT can i do to stop this.... i dont want to carry WD40 in my Glove box !!

seems as if its sttting water?

HELP!!! i dont want it to die on the M4... or any where!! lol

thanx for reading my SA!! LOL

Carb icing, check your warm air hose is present, not split and connected to the exhaust shroud. The exhaust shroud shouldn't have any rust holes in.

Might also be worth cleaning out the float chamber on the carb too in case there's a water bubble in there.

Kris I know this isn't really addressing the problem, but there is stuff DAMP START (you probably know about it) that stops moisture getting at stuff and lasts a bit longer than WD40.I'd to use it on an old Ford I have, great difference.

Is your polo electronic ignition or does it still have points?

could just be something is letting in water now and wasn't before! say, maybe some water got onto ur dizzy, but up until now, the seal has been good, but may have now distorted or broken, meaning now u would get water in! its only a suggestion! 8)
