Post by zahir_213 »

Need to replace my front door speakers, would like to run them off the headunit which is giving out 50wattsx4. Can anyone recommend component speakrs to fit into the factory holes?

so what speakers do you have Josh? :P

It depends what system you want - for sound quality you cannot beat Focals (hence Josh's obsession!)

But for SPL systems (more bass) i've found my AudioBahn AW525s kick like a mule (rated at 100w rms - so they wont even be breaking into a sweat running off the head)

hope that helps

is the standard headunit in the polo gti decent enough to use when upgrading the speakers - I too want better set of components in font plus comps in the rear too.

think head unit is 4x25watts?

dont really wanna mess around with changing head unit - have an alpine one sitting in my flat but then will need to change Cd player etc...

cheers

Hi mate

I have started using my Gamma again, but I've connected 2 amps to it (1 powers the front speakers, one powers the sub). I have disconnected the useless rear speakers.

My front speakers are Focal Polyflex 165H Components.

The Gamma is a fine headunit as long as it's used to drive an amp. It is a bit gutless on it's own unfortunately

Josh, does that Gamma have proper connectors (RCA) to connect the leads to feed the amp?

Kind of....

There is a small yellow connecter that goes into the back of the head unit that provides RCA's, so no dodgy line level converters needed.

RCA's are not actually on the back of the unit, but the adapter cable goes into a specific socket for line out.

Autoleads makes the correct cable.

I also have the Gamma head unit connected to 2 amps (4 speakers and 1 sub)...it's going fine...

the only thing i regret is that there's only 2 RCA and not 3...so I cannot set up the sub volume indepently...but otherwise, it's working fine. Juste buy the ISO yellow connector with the 4 cables (front R-L, back R-L) and the remote and that's all...

Recently, I was looking to the possibility to fit a PS2 or X-Box into the car...but the Gamma head unit doesn't have a IN RCA...but I found this:

this thing can be plugged into the CD changer ISO plug and you should be able to connect it to any device (PC, Mp3 player, ...)...they are even saying that you can use the head unit as a remote control for Winamp
