Could somone advise me of how to fit a K&N Air Filter to my mk2 polo 1987. Please be kind as not very good with cars.
The type i would loke is the bolt on type and the carb is an Pierburg 1B3.

if you mean a box filter all you need to do is
1) take top off the "spaceship", take all associated tubes / vacuum pipe off
2) 10mm/ 8mm bolts hold the "spaceship" on, undo these and take it off
3) plyers - twist the threads sticking up, these come out
4) screw in your bolts that came with the box filter and then place filter / housing over. tighten the bolts on top of the filter.
5) if you like, reattach your hot air feed and point at filter
6) cover exposed breather pipe (recommended) with one of those s**t little mini air filters
