Hi Folks,
I was just wandering whether anyone on here can help me.

My passengers side window won't go up or down (gave no warning of going, just never went up or down at all yesterday) when i try to operate it with the switch, i've taken switch out and checked contacts and even bought a new window switch from vw and no sucess.

When i push the button I can hear something clicking from inside the door, could that be the window regulator or just a relay somewhere ?

I think the window motor could be goosed.

Any ideas to cause would be great....

if you can hear the clicking, chances are its the motor but th only way to really tell is to get the door card off and check if the regulator is damaged.

Ok cool,
Is the regulator attached to the motor or separate
Would any damage be visible ?
I thought it'd be internal damaged if damaged.

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a month ago! I still haven't got round to having a look

Same thing has happened to me in the last week.

Gonna take the motor out at the weekend and give it a clean,
could just be the bushes, making it go open circuit (sp).

Apparently a common problem, as its the passenger one and it gets used less.

Hopefully or its gonna be expensive for a new motor.

I had issues with my driver's side window. It was making a knocking noise when raising up, sometimes it would make a loud *bang* too, scary

I stripped the door down and replaced the motor with a new one from VAGparts with the help of a mate and it worked OK for a couple of days then went back to how it was! I then replaced the regulator (which is everything else other than the motor) and now it works again

However: I replaced my window motor with a new one and the problem re-occured. This means that the used window motor is sat in a box in my room, and probably has some life left in it? Are they interchangeable between the two doors (ie. same part number for either side) as this might be of use to you? If it is goosed then so be it, but if its not...

Mine does that "bang" when it goes up, I just assumed it was the mechanism catching on something so I shrugged it off.

Hey guys had removed card and foam insulation off tonight for a looky.
I knew that Haynes manual i bought would be kinda useful.
Right anyway, Haynes says i have to get window down to acess two window clamp bolts @ bottom of window to remove window followed by runners and the motor with regulator should be attached to them (the runners).
But i have one problem the window is jammed solid no up or down movement.

Does anyone have ideas on how i can get the window down ?

I have tried pulling on the wires at both sides as they wind into electric window motor drum to try and free window off to no sucess.

Any help or ideas would be great.

This happened to me...

Take the door card off, get a rubber mallet and smack the door around where the motor is while holding the switch down, hopefully after a few goes the window should start to move. I know it sounds pikey, but it solves jammed motor's!

I have read that somewhere before, also if I can remember theres a german video somewhere on the net which shows u how to replace the motor I think cant remember exactly.

Passengers windo i've giving up on for the now

I'm now on the lookout for a drivers window motor.

Does anyone know if theres any difference in the window motor on a 2000 polo and a 1997 one?

Differences i mean are mounting to regulator and multiplug connector etc.

As i've phoned round all the local breakers, but the only one i can find is off a 97 polo.

Dont wanna go to VW if i can help it.

Called them and was given £132 something for one.

When I had my problems, the first thing I replaced was the motor. The problem was still there so I replaced the regulator, now all is well.

What I'm saying is that there is a motor for a driver's side electric window sat on my desk here, which might be of use to you! I am 80% certain it is in good working order, would you like me to send it up to you? I certainly don't want £132 for it!

I tell you what. I'm uncertain as to whether it is 100% working, so I can send it up to you in the post (will cost a fiver) and you can test it out. If it works, its yours as its no use to me sat here in a box!

Ok I’ve had the same thing happen to me, I’ve spoken to a few people about its and found that there are a few tricks you can try before you start buying new parts…

· Slam the door shut with the button pressed down
· Move switch up and down fast for a min
· So this one sounds dam stupid but it works washing up liquid down the window panel. Not too much or you risk messing up the electronics in the door.
· And check the fuse for the window.
