The scirocco I just bought has a whine on the main fuel pump, which turns into a grating/grinding noise now and again, and the engine cuts out when it does this. It's now got to the stage where it cuts out every 10 seconds or so, so it's completely undrivable. I've replaced the main fuel pump (where the noise is coming from) and the lift pump, but I'm now stumped. Any ideas from anyone? All I can think is that there's a blockage somewhere so the pump's having to really strain.. but I can't think where. The problem has actually become considerably worse having fitted the new pump as well.. ran fine for the first time out and now it's completely knackered.
