hangin from underneath man, plus if u cut it an take the exhaust off u will have a cut-out in ur bumper, let it hang, looks betta and makes ur car look well, but if ur car is wel low, goin over speed ramps could be a problem, u may hear it scobe, so go extra slow

I think the safer option is to have it hanging underneath the bumper.
Don't know how low you are but you do have to watch out for some speed bumps and other slopey roads as it will scrape.
As for the boxer tail pipe style... I think its a good choice. Cant go wrong with it. Typical choice would be scorpion?

I've had a very bad experience with Scorpion exhausts recently, and if aint put right next week I won't recommend them to anyone.

Im 60mm all round drop. I was thinking of having a powerflow exhuast cause they custom make them for ya. Cause i dont want a stupidly loud exhuast, just want it to sound nice.Oh yes.

mine is a custom cat back exhaust, with oval boxer exit. its not loud around town etc but on the motorway its way too loud. i had to cut my bumper to get it to fit, but not as much as SteveB, mine is only ever so slightly cut out at the bottom -

best pic i have, but you can just about see what i mean, and the backbox still scrapes on some big bumps. Im thinking of changing mine and having a hidden one, still cat-back though

i'd be interested in seeing some more exhaust options for a 1.6 8v as summer is coming and cash will be abundant... (hah)
would be very interested in seeing vids/hearing clips of zausts.
i had a powerflow on my corrado, wasnt loud, good workmanship but on idle it would rattle all the doors in my house. weird!
i hear scorpion are doing some hidden tailpipes though (mk4 golf for sure)
anyway would like to see whats what!

oh some ideas/suggestions/rambles :

1. side exit?
2. side exit in rear bumper! (ooo hole cutting fun)
3. hidden jobby
4. anything that isnt a rain catching dtm style? (seems all olop systems are like this or letterbox no offence to anyone who has them, jus not a fan)

hi there

personally i think hidden is top drawer, peeps hear the meaty sound, by that i mean the proper nice deep rumble that that for some reason the polo seems to make, well my 1.4 8v does anyway. the rumble that is amplified by a quality system, n peeps, particularly the chavs n the corsa n saxo kids, immediately start lookin at the back to see how big your zorst is, 'yes mate thats gotta be some huge, phat exhaust! innit mate' n then theyr kinda baffled wen they see no zorst at all. top drawer.

at the mo i have no backbox at all, n it aint that load, it just sounds sexual, needs a touch more volume. i have a 4-2-1 manifold waitin to go on so im savin up to take that to powerflow n im gonna get them to fit that and put in a sleeved decat pipe (so i can easily pop the cat back in at mot time) and a stainless centre box and a barely visible side exit, just in front of passenger side rear wheel, with no back box n no tailpipe.

this shud be within the next month.

jay.

oh and i forgot to mention an equally as big plus point of a hidden system, smoothness! and symetry! no whacking great thing sticking out beneath the bumper ruining the smooth lines of the polo.

not that i have anything against whacking great silver pipes on other cars that both deserve and need them, ie evos scoobs and skylines, yes i am a fan of big power jap weaponry, as i do not see this as being at all chav, merely speed and power! what i cant stand is riced up civics and other lil hatchbacks that aint made by VAG.

Cheers for the advice guys. For the time being think im just gonna throw, something together, cause im seriously considering a 1.8t, was just a thought a few months back, but now i think im gonna do it, so id have to have a custom made exhaut then.
Thanks again, PDid

i'd be tempted to buy my own piping and take it to an engineering place to see what they can cook up. skylines rock. :P
