Could be your fuel filter maybe?! could be a number of things. I had a cutting out problem, n changing the fuel filter helped!.

Yeah i dont think my had been changed since new. What have you got to lose, you can only benefit from changing a few parts. Might be worth taking your sparkplugs out aswell n give them a inspection.

i changed my sparkplugs about 6k ago, wen i got the car, so they shud b like new, ill put redex in her 2moz then go buy a new filter in the week, coz i think i wee engine needs sum upgradin, especially now that its in my hands an im quite sore on her.

Mine does the same, it starts for a second and then cuts out. I find that if I give it more gas when turning the key (and keep the pedal down a bit when it's started) it will keep going.
It's not a big problem for me - once it's going it runs like normal. It happens rarely, and it does seem to be random.
I don't think it's spark plugs or HT leads, as they haven't made any difference to mine. Redex doesn't make any difference either.
You might be on to something with the fuel filter theory, I don't know when mine was last (if ever) changed.
polo boi: to get a decent set of HT leads you'll probably be paying 20 quid upwards for a set. You can get some
really cheap ones (a couple of quid per lead) but the difference in design is quite

! the original supplier (OE) is a company called Beru, you can get a set from
http://www.vwspares.co.uk/p4electrical.php . I've got Champion leads and plugs which have caused no problems so far.

but do the HT leads improve the spark? i would like a set of red ones, as my car is red an i wanna start moddin everywhere includin the engine bay

to be honest, i think that if you've got a spark, you've got a spark!
unless you've got a misfire (if you get one, you'll know about it) or incomplete combustion (i.e. petrol dripping from your exhaust), i don't think you'll improve the performance.
but colour coded HT leads will look priddier

yea, i think i just want the look, im gonna b sprayin the engine head red aswell, an ill b smoothing off my boot myself, so its gettin a whole respray aswell as my bonnet as its faded an had the odd stone chip in the paint, all spary an bodywork done by myself

cool, good luck with the bodywork. i'd love to be able to spray properly myself, but for the while i'll be leaving it to the pros!

Maybe the throttle body could do with a clean ??
this happened to me on my 6n2 - my garage cleaned the throttle body and
reset the ecu and bobs your uncle like driving a new car !!

well ill not get in2 real technical stuff if until i sort the fuel out an if it dosnt change then ill do the throttle body, but im sure its the fuel bein dirty
