De-badging the boot

Post by brew1988 »

How easy is it to de-badge the boot, i no it sounds stupid lol but are the vw and polo signs just stck on or are there actuall holes in the boot that will need filling and if they are stuck on, will the paint be a lighter shade underneath them? cheers guys brew.

They're just stuck on with badge tape. Try and use a filler spreader and slide it behind them. A credit card will do the same job. The badges will leave behind their tape more than likely but it can be polished off no probs. No pegs or anything to weld up so crack on.

Alrite mate

get the hairdryer out for the polo badging n gently peel it off, n use a bit of white spirit or furnature polish or sumthing to remove any sticky residue left. there are no drill holes behind the polo and the model badges. and depending on the condition of your paintwork the paint underneath may be of deeper un-blemished un-sun bleached colour. mine was like like that but on mine unless u know its there u will not notice it. even i find it hard to see it now. but this does depend on the condition of the visible paint on your car.

As for the VW badge it is set into a recess in the bodywork. there are no holes behind it, it again is just stuck on with 3M stickyness. but if you remove it, it will leave a sunken area where it has been removed from, and will look kinda gash. the only way round the problem is to get the recess filled and smoothed and sprayed and that is a lot of expense. A black vw badge will usually tidy up the bootlid no end if you cant afford the expense. i know i cant.

sorry about the essay but im sure it answeres ure question

petrol also removes sticky glue crap form your car. When i bought my wee open air the boot was held shut with duck tape and less some realy nasty residue but petrol a cloth and some backbone sorted it right out.

Just completely de-badged mine and also removed the rear wiper, trying for the ultra clean look. Smart idea about changing the VW emblem to black, was wondering what to do with that as it sticks out a bit. Cheers for the idea's.
