freeing up some power on a 16v

Post by mike1 »

ive decided to go stealth on my 16v, no exhausts, skirts, spoilers. completly standard looking. im getting 195-45-14 tyres so that should give it a bit more acelration. but still want a bit more power on it so i was thinking whats the best way to do about it, reasonably cheaply. bmc cda? manifold? any help would be apreciated

You could get a full exhaust system but either go for a standard looking back box/tip or have it hidden and if u went to one of the custom exhaust places such as longlife then you could pick the note that you wanted eg a nice standard'ish sound but still get the little increase in preformance from the full system... just a thought. Sounds like you want a sleeper then very standard looking car but got more power than what the average guy is going to suspect! 1.8T id recomend for the sleeper approach and a lucky dip for the loto :D to pay for it all.

im not 17 for another 4 weeks i doubt i could even get insured with a 1.8t even in a few years at a reasonable price. im paying £1090 fully comp in my name with a 150 excess for it now. so if i do a few mods i can still afford to insure it for hopefully under £1500. just want a bit more power than it has now so i can put a smile on my face when i beat a saxo vtr

I believe there's a couple of 16v's knocking about with BMC CDA, full exhuast + manifold, uprated cams and a chip, etc, and they're pushing around the 120bhp mark

Not bad for a N/A 1.4 8)

You shouldn't have any problems with VTR's, but it's the VTS' you wanna watch out for. Having said that, most of them weigh about as much as a bus thanks to the huge bodykits, filler, subs and 20 inch rims so many of them have

dont want to hijack the thread, but has anybody ever tried this with the 1.6 8v?
i should imagine that breathing mods would help loads with the engine, and similar figures (perhaps a little less) would be achievable for small money.

keeping on target, 100bhp as stock in a 1.4 16v.. vtr is like 90? agreed the VTS is a quick little beastie, my dad has a 106gti same engine but with a better interior. (sad old man)

personally i'd go hunting for bike throttlebodies!!!! weeeeeee

From what I've heard, if it's power you're after then get a BMC CDA

They're apparently quite quiet though

I have a Pipercross on mine, sounds lovely under full throttle but I doubt it does an awful lot for the performance.
