1.0 Air Box query

Post by mister_burns »

Evening all!

My sister in law has a 1.0 S plate polo and he was having bother with the idle speed and stalling so today she broght it round for me to clean the throttle boddy with carb cleaner etc.

However when I opened the air box although the air filter was clean and in good condition (it was serviced last September) the base of the box itself under the filter was coated in oil. Black dirty oil. The trottle body and the butterfly valver were also fithly.

I cleaned the whole lot up and it seems to have sorted the idle sppeed and stalling which is good, but is it normal to get oil in the airbox? I didnt think it was a good sign.

any ideas?

It is normal, but it should be cleaned out on a service, theres an oil breather pipe that leads to the airbox and as such oil can get fed it to there.
