Engine conversions for the gti
What are the known issues with conversions with the polo?
Guessing the 2 only decent options are 1.8 T and G60.
What about a 2.0 16v (150bhp) from an old gti?
What are people thoughts n what not?
Any one looked into doing it?
Cheers

I was thinking to myself about the 2.0 litre 16v engine the other day. Never seen it done, but it made me think that one of those engines to buy must be relatively cheap.
Guess the advantage of choosing say the 1.8T motor over it is the fact that engine has a lot of tuning potential from aftermarket companies. Another option is something the 2.8 VR6 engine, seen a couple of them in Mk4s.
What I'd really love to see is someone shoehorn the new 2.0T from the Golf GTi, or the twincharger GT block into a Mk5.

If I were going to the trouble of changing engines, it would be a 1.8T going in. So many options and potential with it. 600bhp if funds allow
200-250bhp would make a nice starter for 10. JBS in Chesterfield specialise in 1.8T VAG conversions, if you want to take it a stage further and talk to someone in the know. Think you'd be talking £4k as a basic conversion, depending on turbo selected, and the number of customised parts.

Just emailed a couple of companys that specialise in conversions just to see what kind of price they ll do the work for.
Can the chasis take 220bhp odd?
Still want the car to be useable every day, thats the key point! Look like a normal polo Gti but go like stink!!
Think i may have to start saving for coilovers now then!
I m guessing spending the money on the 1.6 engine aint worth it for the gains? Say £4k on engine bits? Can you get throttle bodies for the gti?
