1litre...... hmmmmm ??

Post by Grizz »

So what is the general concensus on the 1043cc or around there 1litre Polos??

I like the Mk 1, 2 and 3 Polos, and want a simple play car as I have a big weekday work car, which is insured through the company.

Being a "foreigner" I have a couple of motorbikes insured, but never owned a car in the 4 years here. Aged 43 with no no claims, but also no claims on the company cars to date due to my negligence, (Had 3 hit and run type scratch and dents) I would like to have a low insurance premium and low use type insurance.

How good are the 1litre motors, what type of mileages do they make comfortably??
And what goes wrong with them ?? If anything.

All views, comments and help greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Rian.

Realistically MK3's are very popular and more of an "enthusiasts" car i would say..

MK1's well.. they are hard to find especially in good nick really..

I would go for an MK2, readily available, good little runners (like any polo really), typically you want to make sure the standard stuff is ok like a smooth clutch, non spongey breaks, starts first time e.t.c

then u want to be looking at the rust on the engine, rust on arches, holes forming on the exhaust. unfortunately as far as MK2s go im unsure, but they are very good cars and u can pick them up SO cheaply..

I'm currently in the process of getting an MK2 for my younger 16 year old brother as a suprise :)

I've got my eye on a MK2 in my local area thats in great condition, but its done a high mileage (128,000) but other than that its fine - all for £80 :D With tax and mot..

Thanks Wild child, sounds cool,

I have found an '85 1litre 2door sedan that I want to give a good seeing to, and then pass it on to my lady friends daughter who is 16 now, if she does another 2 years schooling.

The one I am interested in has done 72k miles, and has drivers door peeling on the inside.
