GT Overheating

Post by Oli »

Hi

I have a problem with my GT engine overheating. I turn on the ignition and all is fine, but when I turn over the engine the water temperature light immediately comes on, and stays on (although once for about a minute it flickered constantly). The engine then starts to heat up almost immediately. I've been out for 1 run in it (about 2 miles there, realised it was boiling hot, then came back 2 miles slowly) and haven't been out after. I've squeezed all the pipes with the coolant in and there is fluid going through all of them. The fan is cutting in when it needs to (even going 10 minutes after I turned off engine it was so hot). As far as my limited knowledge goes I don't think its the head gasket. What else can it be? I'm taking it to a garage on saturday, but I haven't driven it properly yet, and I'm dieing to go out!

I also noticed that a couple of connectors don't have any wires going to them, and I was wondering if this was the problem? Or if it is a problem at all? Sorry for the crap photo edit.

just a couple quick suggestions, mate...

have you checked in the oil filler cap to make sure theres no white mayonaise stylee stuff going on?

have you checked in the coolant expansion tank for any oddness e.g maybe overfilled or underfilled, possibly mayonaise stuff too?

has the car been sitting idle for a while before you drove it?

p.s didn't look too shoody a photo edit to me

Mileage of the engine is just 40k. No mayo anywhere, and fluids are fine. Its just been put in to my mk1 Polo, and I didn't have this problem when it was in the GT shell. Although I hadn't driven the GT for a month or two before it went in the mk1 (apart from the short drive to the garage).

Its silly overheating, not just getting a little bit warmer then usual, so can't blame it on the weather unfortunately.

What does the socket next to the blue one do? There is nothing plugged in to that one!
