EPC light and death at 3000rpm!

Post by Dee-vub »

orite folks. just got back from holiday today and fancied taking the car for a drive. what a surprise its got a problem! BLOODY POLOS!! Turned the car on and the EPC light was on. Took out and the car wouldn't rev over 3000rpm. It just dies! i can rev to 3000rpm and then need to change gear to go anywhere. It feels like something is limiting it from going up the rev range and it feels although it is an intentional limit from the engine as it revs to EXACTLY 3000rpm everytime!

Anyone had anything like this before. any ideas? cheers, phil

Sounds similar to what i had about 2 months ago.

Lift your bonnet and take a look at the HT leads. Mine kept popping up (and still do) which seemed to cause the car to have a delayed reaction when accelerating.

Eventually though, my EPC light came on and the car had similar performance to what your explaining. When i took it to the garage, they plugged it into Vag-com and i had a misfire for cylinder 3. Mechanic fitted me a new HT lead, cleared the fault and my car ran normally again.

Give it a try. If it dont work, post back and we'll see if anyone else has an idea.

Depending on the fault logged, the EPC light puts the car in a kind of 'limp' mode, this is why you can't rev over 3000rpm

Hmm,
My EPC light came on on my trek back from scotland. I stopped after reading this post.... but nothing happened. No change in performance and she ran fine.
Does that mean ive got faulty sensors...?

Had the same problem with handbrake light beeping and flashing when the handbrakes not on and ABS light coming on...

iv had the handbrake light beeping and flashing at me before but thats just cos i left it on slightly. iv had my abs light come on and i had it put through a diagnostic and it registered a fault but it got taken for a test drive and was fine. the ecu was reset and put through a diagnostic again and registered no faults.

well i put up this thread and was booked in to get the car checked over. the next day i jumped into the car, fired it up and it was totally fine! Has been fine since!

I think the polos have a bit of a temperment generally just want to be a cheeky asshole to you!!

The EPC light can come on for something as simple as your brake light switch failing.

When mine came on, I looked at the book and saw "Engine Management" and though, that's brilliant

Turned out my brake light switch had gone, which meant they weren't working.
