5th gear?!?

Post by i_am_ray »

hmmmm, was drivin 2 a job interview today and on the M25 when pushing like 110mph, if i took my foot off the gas it kept popping out of gear :o
and when ya listening to music loudly at that speed you dont realise its even happened till you glance at ya rev counter and see the needle trying desperatley to snap the lil pin at 7,000 rpm.

why is this happening??? lol
its really annoying, im guessing its going to be something wrong with my gearbox or slector?

Taking into account speedo inaccuracy it would probably be more like 100mph.

Going from my experience, at that speed it's about 10mph off.

I've had a 119mph on my Tom Tom in mine

lol yer i was wondering that, but it doesnt seem like a related problem.
i dont see y driving flat out for long periods of time woul dmake it pop out of gear.

and how do i get my speedo corrected then?

are you SURE its wrong? i know it seems very fats for a 1 litre, but it does take a long long time to reach that speed. ive only ever reached 115 once and that was down hill.

but it can normally reach 108-110 ok on a normal motorway without a hill. still takes bloody ages though.

Yup, that was the most I ever got out of my 1.0E. Quoted top speed for it is only 94mph. So by the sounds of it your speedo is a little bit "optimistic"

And whilst bouncing off the limiter shouldn't directly cause gearbox problems, it doesn't do the engine a lot of good in the long term.

hmmm...that recently kinda happened with me too...i was only just pushing near 70...but while i was in fifth gear, the gear shift seemed to want to pop out from fifth and made that noise you would hear if you tried changing gear without clutching properly...and that happened several times and each time it happened, my rev seemed to die down for a second and the car seemed to lose power for a second then everything would be ok again. very weird, and i have no clue what it is. but since then i have changed my clutch (since it was very worn) but have not been on a motorway since then so i dont know if the clutch was the problem.
