Hi all please help if you have any ideas!
2 probs driving me to distraction and Id so appreciate ANY help,
1). When my engine runs at high rev, so if I accelerate hard or Ive changed down a gear and the rev counter goes up, i get this weird rumbling/grinding noise coming from just under the hood, drivers side quite near to the windscreen (so outside the car). I cant figure it out, it happens when I change gear and so if the revs drop / pick up quickly and you can hear it if I drive in high revs in gear 1 or 2 (not really an issue if driving 70mph and so in gear 5). So when I pull away and then accelerate to 20mph you can hear it rumbling/grinding, i change gear and as i push the clutch in and change gear (revs drop) you can hear it again until the gear engages and then its ok (until I get to higher reves ready to change to third) It seems less of a prob as I change up and up the gears. It get less if I have been driving for a while and when my car warms up but its annoying and somewhat worrying. Any ideas?
2.) When I turn my stearing wheel tight (not necessarily full lock) I can hear a sweeping/rubbing noise almost like something is rubbing near the wheels / suspension, havent a clue what it is and again quite a worry!
PLease help if you can, appreciate any help.
Thanks all.

huh. Thats an interesting one. I havnt thought of that. Do you think it could be? also is that where the noise would be comming from if it were? I though that alternator would be with the battery or near the engine (i.e. other side of the bonet or the middle??).
So how is your situation panning out? do you need some work done? how much is that likely to cost, spose thats a new alternator aint it?
Cheers for the suggestion/

take the belt off and run the engine and see if the noise is gone, if it hasnt then it isnt that, if it has gone then get down your local scrappy and get a new one £20-£30! at the minit i cant afford one for mine but i definitly know that it is the altenator that is making the noise on mine, cos when the belt snapped the noise stopped, ive spent enough money on my car this week, its been off the road for a year now, and fianlly its going in for its mot tomorrow , fingers crossed for me !
