hi im new to this fourm. For the last few days i have had a problem with my engine as it has started to over cool the. When i drive it the temp will go down to cold (under 70s) and when im idle the temp will start to rise this is annoying because my heating will also go cool as the temp drops. Any 1 know why this is happening???

plzzzzzzz

90% chance of it being your thermostat sticking open and hence too much coolant is being allowed through the radiator. Should be cheap and easy to fix :)

Just because you've changed the thermostat doesn't mean the new one's working! I had one stuck open once on my kit car's engine and went throught three replacements until I got one that actually worked! Easy test is to drop it in a cup of boiling water. Watch it open and then take it out and make sure it shuts again. Once happy, fit it to the car :)

went to the garage yday and they tink its not the thermostat because its just been replaced so what they did is put a sheet of paper in front of da radiator for a tempory. fist it did overheat but what i did was i cut the paper in half its had now solved it for the moment. i will have go back to vw and ask for a replacement thermostat as the 1st 1 was dodgy.
