g40 Disc Upgrade

Post by Arnoldo »

Was thinking of upgrading my brakes to the g40 ones. Anyone else done so. If is it easy to do and does it cost much? I have all 4 discs so base the price on that.

Cheers :P

 Do you mean g60 brakes? They are 280mm discs on the front (you keep the standard rear setup).

ui wouldnt think g40 brakes would be overly impressive on a 6n2. I'd think you meant g60 brakes, which are quite common a upgrade

G40 discs are 239mm from what I remember.

As Si says G60 discs are 280mm.

Were can these be bought from, how much would they cost and is it hard to do? Also would they fit in a 15" wheel?

You can buy the parts from GSF, VAGparts or similar. I'm not clear on the exact parts you will require but obviously 280mm discs, pads, to fit your olop plus the other bits and pieces (carriers?)

G60 upgrade will fit behind a 15" wheel, just! 8)

Is it also not likely to require new calipers?

Not sure. GTi owners use the OEM calipers, right? What size brakes were fitted to non GTi models as standard?

GTi's and 16v's have 256mm front discs.

I think all other models have 239mm discs, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

You'll need the calipers, caliper carriers and discs. I don't remember anything else being mentioned when I inquired about it with VAG Parts.
