Sony XPLOD Sub & Zeus Amp

Post by vwdan »

Hi
I posted a message a while ago about upgrading my speakers in my Mk5 and I went to a local car audio place and they recommended a sub and amp over speaker upgrades.
I have to say the standard sound I have in my Mk5 with my alpine is pretty beefy so was wondering whether to go for the upgrade or not.
The sub they had a deal on was a 12" Sony Xplod with a Zeus Amp

Cant remember the model numbers off the top of my head but anyone got anything similer? Worth it??
Im tempted even though I said I would never get a sub lol

Dont buy anything ever made by sony (car wise). Its all rubbish. Especially there subs.

If your after a cheap sub amp combo buy one online and get a jbl package. There low end stuff is incredible value for money and sounds mint.

I echo the above.

As far as Teles etc goes, Sony are spot on.

As far as audio goes, don't bother with them :D

I did give the Sony a listen and I wasnt 100% what to think and that was going through a really expensive amp to test it out
Obviously I would have to hear it in my car but I was a little unsure and I not heard of the amp either which was in the deal

The JBL packages you can pick up pretty cheap cant you? I was just speaking to my mate about it and he said JBL would be good budget wise.
I dont wanna go really cheap and nasty dont get me wrong but would like some good quality subbage for good money

I have an Alpine head unit which a lot of people rate quite highly. The sound is pretty good just going through my normal speakers.
Im not really sure what my budget is. I would say around 200 quid without fitting which I know your prob thinkin might not sound a lot lol
The Genesis amps are pretty nice but there quite expensive!
One of my friends got a really cheap and nasty sub and he has the bass up full and when your sitting in his car it just sounds awful!! You cant even hear the music anymore lol

Like you said the JBL's are pretty good value for money. The sony sub and zeus amp was about 160 without fitting but after what you guys have said and also what I partly thought, Im a bit put off by Sony
I had a look in Max Power (please excuse that fact) lol and it looked like you could pick up a JBL set quite cheap

if your planning on doing future upgrades (door speakers. more powerful sub/amp) then try and get some decent stuff now, then in the future all you need to do is add more equipment (instead of replacing the lot). if your planning to upgrade in the future then get

4awg wiring kit (possibly thicker)(
single sub
mono amp or 4 channel amp (id prefer a mono amp and then if needed i can always buy another amp in the future)

the jbl package is good, however the wiring kit is not future proof. it will work well with the equipment provided with it, but not too well with a more powerful amp.

if your looking for just some simple/subtle bass then the jbl will do the trick, if your looking for serious panel flexing bass then look elsewhere (but they obviously come at a price)

Cheers mate!

Yeah just looking for that extra oomph!!
Not really after panel shaking bass lol I know what your saying about cables etc though and quality of the stuff as I am quite into home hi-fi

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/bass-pack-p-4278.html this one seemed quite a good one for me if not then http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/bass-pack-p-4277.html both are the JBL packs.

There is an Alpine one on there but I am not sure how they rate. Both my friend and people on here quite liked the sound of the JBLs

The Genesis package would be awesome but I dont really want to spend that much. I am just mainly after a better sound to what I have got and an improvement.

the alpine type-r's are highly rated although at £300 that is a fair bit out of you budget.

i say stick with the jbl pack 2.

dont get (pack 1) the one with 6x9's as those speakers which probably reduce sound quality instead of improve.

Yeah I was thinking pack 2
I didnt really wanna have 6 x 9s but saw that the package wasnt at a bad price!

Cheers again. It says 1 - 2 weeks dispatch.
