Gearboxes

Post by neilw »

Thought it would be interesting to find out what % of owners have had Gearbox. seeing that nearly every other thread is about gearbox failures.

Had bit of a worry the other day, happened to be the day I moved into my new house. Clunking noises where herd coming from the gearbox area! Seems to have gone away for the time being. Hope its ok, as I have no money.

Anyway Answer the poll and we can find out a %

Wouldn't like to jinx you, but if you can get past 80k without it failing....there will be a UK-POLOS medal for you!

You just know its gonna fail now. There is some funny noises coming from it. a bit of a rattle and once i'm up to 60MPH there is a whine, but that sounds like its coming from the engine bay.

I've got some money set aside just incase it fails, but hopefully ill get a UK-POLO medal before i need to dip into that :D

Mine went when it was nearly new and under warranty. Seems to be fine now.

Mine is on 77400 and still OK *touch wood*. Since VW changed my gearbox oil I have had awful trouble getting the car into reverse gear though, it is not stiff or difficult but it does make a horrendous graunching sound, as if it hasn't spun down? I am aware there is no synchromesh on reverse but even so, it was not like this before the oil change :?

Its nearly a 70% failure rate at the moment

Imagine if a part on an aircraft was that prone to braking. They all be grounded.
