hey guys. i wonder if anyone can help. about 2 nights ago as my bro was getting his car out (the mk5) we noticed that one of his head lights had gone out! (the same head light bulb we changed about 6months ago)! anyway, when we went to check it out again, aparently when the turned the headlights on, both came on and then both went out! then they wouldn't come on at all! phoned the garage the next morning to find out if they had heard of such a wierd occurance before and they hadn't! (it is very rare that 2 bulbs go at the same hime!!!) so we went away and got some new bulbs, took the old ones out, and put the new ones in and they were fine! closer inspection of the old bulbs saw that both bulbs had blown! has this happened to anyone before? are they on some kind of cuircit that means when one goes out, so does the other!
we checked that the car was charging correctly and at the right rate, we went to look at the fuses but kinda gave up when we saw how many there were!
if anyone has had this problem, i would like to hear wot happened!

My 16v polo 2001 has a fairly bad problem with headlamp bulbs, i've had it for 4 months and have used 6 bulbs, i first used ring bulbs and they blew in 2 weeks then i used halfords own and they were even worse. i checked out the values going to the bulbs and they were fine, i then thought that perhaps there was a leak of some kind into the lamps (as any kind of grease or water etc can create hot spots on the bulb causing it to blow) but the lamp unit was sealed fine. I've swapped to bosch bulbs now, not cheap but haven't had a problem since. Not sure if i was any help but worth a try. Sean.
