Choice of fuel for your Polo GTi Turbo?

Post by AndyGTi »

I'm starting my search for a great deal on a new Polo GTi, but I was wondering about fuel (95 or 98 Octane)

I remember seeing Fifth Gear and also a recent Auto Express test when they did a fuel test and they used a Golf GTI (197bhp) and the use of Super unleaded did have an effect (more performance) when compared to normal Unleaded 95 Octane.

I'm currently stuck with Renault Clio 1.4, so have been popping my head in on the Renaultsport website and they all swear by Shell V-power and the 197 has to have Super unleaded anyway.

So question is, at 148bhp is it worth using super unleaded in the Polo GTi?

Any of you new Polo owners out there able to help with your experince.

Hopefully I'm be back in a VW before too long.

I use BP Ultimate and that's in the 6N2 Polo GTi.

So I'd say go with the higher octane.

The manual for the New Polo says use 95 RON, or higher. But it does state in the text that using a higher ron fuel will give no benefit in terms of performance or fuel economy.

I personally use V-Power in mine, but i've only filled it up twice

I use V power in mine too, I also had had it re mapped to run on high octane. The other plus point of using V power/bp ultimate etc is that it will keep your engine nice and clean of carbon deposits and most of them now have friction reducting stuff in it

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't sure as VW brochure seems to state, just run it on 95 Octane. So thanks for checking manual, Andy947.

Jeff and MateyGuy when you say you've had it re-mapped, is that it chipped to 180 bhp or higher.

Thanks

andy, after some serious reading up and research, i chosen awesome gti in irlam to re map my car using the apr stage 1 tuned software, due to its reliability, and impressive gains

as our polo's are the later versions of the 20v turbos, they are the drive by wire versions and use the ko3s turbo as standard, so the map takes it to just over 200 bhp and 328 nm torque

heres the page from apr tuned website,

hope it helps

Hi,

Here in South Africa we only have 93 & 95 Octane fuels available at the pumps. I used the 93 for a while because it is cheaper, but the fuel gauge needle drop vey quickly when I drove hard so I now I'm using only 95 which noticeably makes the car lighter no fuel.
