Gents,
Need some advice, I've been offered some BBS split rim wheels, but unfortunately, one of the bolts on one of the wheel needs to be drilled out and replaced with a new one. What concerns me is the integrity and safety of the wheel once this is done, would it be dangerous and could the bolt become loose after time?
And what exactly do they mean when they talk about 'drilling' bolts out, do they literally get a drill and remove the bolt? does this not screw up the thread?

Hello mate.
On the first set of RXII's I refurbished, one of the bolt heads (actually 3 in fact) sheared off when I undid them, leaving the threaded part of the bolt stuck in the rim. The bolts themselves are made of titanium, so they need to be drilled out with pretty hardcore machinery!
I have a contact at an engineering firm, and they agreed to remove the sheared off bolts. Essentially what they do, is using a small drill bit is drill into the top off the bolt. Then repeat the process using increasingly larger diameter drill bits until literally all the material from the inside of the bolt has been removed.
After that, they then rethreaded the original bolt holes using a tap and die, so the thread was restored to its original condition. When I came to put the wheels back together all of the new bolts went in fine and didn't have any problems with them at all.
As long as the work has been done by a professional firm, I really wouldn't be concerned about buying them. Anything else you want to know just ask.

Well I actually sold the wheels that had the work done to them.
That was well over a year ago, and I've heard nothing from the buyer so I'm assuming that everything has been ok with them!
As for somewhere in London, can't really help you off the top of my head. But I shall talk to some people and see what I can find out for you mate.
