1.4 16v Tappet Noise?

Hi Guys - long time no post, but:

Wife's Polo has a 1.4 16v engine at 30kish miles, with a noisey tappet that quietens down as the engine warms. Anyone else have this? Is it a common problem? Don't know what to do about it really as it doesn't seem to get worse and the car's out of warranty. Could it do any damage, long term?

This is due to it having hydraulic tappets, they take a while to fully fill up with oil. Its a characteristic, and nothing to be concerned about, especially as they are quieting down when the engine warms up.

Short journeys are likely to cause this. My Polos done 96K and doesn't make a single tap when it starts but that's because it spends a lot of time doing 70+ on the motorway...and has regular oil changes.

it may be just the injectors you can hear as they are quite noisy..
