Help!!! :(

Post by R.I.T.B »

Well, Ive got all the bits for my Install now(took 5 and a half hours saturday to pick up)

Since Saturday I've been trying to do bits and bobs but to no success. Few Questions....

1. I know I've got to run RCA's /power cables seperate etc... but, how can i get the wires up from the passenger footwell to the back of the headunit? Theres not even room for an Ant, let alone my hand!

2. My cars got the 6 CD changer(which i want to keep) I've taken the bracket out for it, so its now loose in my boot, once i have a frame built for my subs i will relocate/secure it, but, will it skip loads due to vibration? Is it better to re-locate under passenger seat?

3. I've got a standard head unit, so, I'm guessing I'll need a new one as there's no Pre-outs??? Any cheapish ones to recommend?

I'm aiming to get the install built by this Sat, and all connected n running it in by sunday... Btw, its on a X plate GTi. 8)

1) run the power cable down the right side (battery is there  )
rca's down other side.
run these down the door sills it should work :) u only may have a prob if the power cable is a thick gauge one
as for getting them into the head unit i used an old metal coat hanger

2)u wanna keep the CD changer mmmmmm. u might have probs with that if u change the head unit as the conns might not match to fit your new head unit, if its the std vw one dont think it will (not 100%)
if you move it u could always see if it would fit into the glovebox.

3)yeah u will need a unit with pre outs checkout flea-bay loads on there or try on here u never know :)

Nah, the glovebox is pathetic.

SQ+ were stuck with ideas with mine at first, they were going to go with the glovebox until the bloke looked at it, then under the seat but it wouldn't fit. The boot has no room, so it had to go behind the seat 8)

In the rough layout i've got for my install the CD changer will fit, but i take it if its right next to the vibration it'll skip?

It can do, although it'll take quite a bit of vibration to skip.

Mine isn't too far away from the sub at all, and I'm estimating that it's somewhere around 140db.

So long as you have it screwed to something, you should be fine.

Here's where the sub is

And the changer (it's behind the panel on the left of the pic, where you can see the little tab)

So not that far away.
