I know the 16v is supposed to have a weak gearbox, but has anyone else had this?

The bottom of my gear stick has crumbled apart so is no longer connected to the pushrod that go into the gearbox. I can't select any gears :( Had to have the car towed to a garage to be fixed. Just wondering if anyone knows how much it's going to cost? They won't be able to look at it until tomorrow.

I've just had exactly the same problem. I had to be towed from West Yorkshire to Gloucestershire, as I couldn't get the car in gear. I'd just had a new gearbox fitted on my 16V about three weeks ago, and I was worried it might be that! It was a broken linkage that cost just £35 to fix... Phew!

I had a gearbox issue with a car before. If you can jack up the front of the car to get to the gearbox, ( I jacked mine with and sat it on the spare wheel so I could crawl under) and get it into third gear by hand then you can usually get it home.
Not the most practical thing but it does save a big tow bill!
