ice advice

Post by emuni »

I'd say the standard speakers are pretty much rubbish, i've got a clarion cd head unit that came with the car and was wondering what would be the best way to go about upgrading the audio..

Is it possible to get a set of components and mount them in the doors with the tweeters in the dash, replacing the ones hidden away? And would it be best to go for a good set of 6x9's or a sub or both? Would the 6x9's and sub both run from 1 amp or would i need 2 amps? or would i run the 6x9s from the headunit?

Lol.. any advice appreciated, i'm pretty much an ice noob! :P

Car is a '97 polo 8v, 6n.. thanks :)

It is possible to do the speakers as you say - 17cm i think in the doors. Dependant on what you go for, front components and a sub should do the trick. You can run it all from one amp providing it has enough channels - usually 2x400W and 1x1000W (or something like that) is what you would be needing.

If you did go down the 6x9 route, you wouldnt be able to run them very well from the head unit at all. Personally, I would upgrade the HU, run the front components off that and have an amped sub in the boot :D

Hope this helps!

be carefull with the fly trap amps. they seem to overheat all the time and melt the wires inside. im asuming its the one in the bazzuca box? grey felt cover? plastic cone?

the plastic cone will allow yo hard thmping bass, but what i would advise now would be to go out and buy a really soft, 8" sub. this will reflex massivly, and give the grumble, and people outside your car would hear it from miles away ;) with quality bass rather than thumping load bass ;)

you would require a new amp as the fly subb you have has a built in amp. but that aint a problem. 2 amos arent a bad thing. normally i would run two subs off one power amp whiwh has a strong two outputs. this way you dont kneed the two amps ;)

dont rush into buying amps..or subbs.. there was plenty of better deals i could of found for you, instead of the trap subb and amp you have now.

also, does your head unit have a sub-out???????

:p Some people. like myself havent got the space for a sub that takes up half their boot space - I would be screwed if i lost an inch of my bootspace as I move stuff about so much :D
